Eutrochium fistulosum

Trumpetweed/Joe-pye weed

Eutrochium fistulosum is a tall flowering plant native across the southeast. It is predominantly found in moist to wet sites, and grows well in full sun or part shade. This plant can get up to eight feet tall during the growing season, but dies back completely in the winter. Leaving dormant stems up until spring provides necessary over-wintering habitat for pollinators. Large clusters of small pink flowers bloom in the summer and attract many pollinators. Birds eat the seeds in the fall and winter. This is a host plant for a few native butterfly species. Eutrochium fistulosum works well as a specimen plant in a yard or rain garden, in stormwater ponds, or for restoration projects.
