Taxodium ascendens

Taxodium ascendens is a tree native to the southeastern coastal plain, predominantly found in wetland habitats. It needs wet soils to grow, and full sun. This is one of our deciduous conifers, and the small scale-like leaves turn a showy orange color in the fall. Purplish green cones mature in the fall and attract birds. Taxodium ascendens is great as a specimen tree in a wet cultivated setting, or for use in restoration projects.
