Spartina alterniflora

Spartina alterniflora is a grass native to the coastal plain throughout the southeast. It is the dominant plant of salt marshes in our area. It grows best with full sun and wet soils. It can grow up to eight feet tall and is evergreen. It provides useful cover for wildlife. It spreads via rhizomes, and has a tendency to form monocultures.
