Platanus occidentalis

Platanus occidentalis is a native overstory tree common throughout the southeast. It is often found along stream banks, wet roadcuts, and wet forests. It prefers to grow in moist to wet soils, and can tolerate occasional flooding as well as drought. It grows best in full sun to part shade. This tree is easily recognized at maturity by its white upper bark (quite stark in the winter). It has broad leaves. Platanus occidentalis works well for restoration plantings, or as a street tree.
