Penstemon smallii

Penstemon smallii is a flowering perennial native to the southeastern U.S., predominantly found in woodlands of the Mountains and Piedmont. It grows best in part-sun with average or dry soil. It is shade tolerant and moderately deer resistant. Showy pink flowers bloom in the summer and attract pollinators, including hummingbirds. It can grow almost three feet tall during a growing season and dies back in the winter. Penstemon smallii works well as a showy native in a garden or woodland border.
