Nyssa biflora

Nyssa biflora is a native tree that occurs predominantly on the coastal plain in our region. It is found in wetlands, and needs wet soils to grow. It prefers full sun to part shade. The flowers bloom in the early spring and are much enjoyed by pollinators. Blue fruits are produced in the fall and attract birds and small mammals. This tree has beautiful red fall foliage. Nyssa biflora works well as a street or yard tree, or for use in restoration plantings and wetland mitigation.
