Acorus americanus

Acorus americanus is a flowering plant found throughout the southeast. It grows best in full sun to part shade, and in soils that are wet to submerged in water. It has evergreen, iris-like leaves, and sweet smelling rhizomes. It often spreads via these rhizomes to create stands. This plant provides cover for small wildlife. Acorus americanus is an excellent plant for restoration projects.
