Viburnum prunifolium

Black haw

Viburnum prunifolium is a small native tree that is found in moist to dry forests throughout the southeast. It prefers to grow in full sun to part shade. It is drought tolerant. Showy clusters of small white flowers bloom in the spring and attract pollinators. Blue-black fruits ripen in the late summer and are enjoyed by birds of all sizes. The leaves of this tree somewhat resemble those of our native cherry trees. It is also a host plant for a few native butterfly species. Viburnum prunifolium is excellent for restoration projects.
