Liriodendron tulipifera

Tulip poplar

Liriodendron tulipifera is an overstory tree native throughout the southeast. It is found frequently throughout rich moist forests. It prefers to grow in full sun. The leaves on this tree are broad, and the flowers that appear in the late spring/early summer are framed by showy yellow and orange bracts. These flowers attract hummingbirds, butterflies, songbirds, and other pollinators. It is also a host plant to several native butterfly species. Liriodendron tulipifera works great for restoration projects.
