Fraxinus pennsylvanica

Green ash

Fraxinus pennsylvanica is an overstory tree native across the southeast. It naturally occurs in moist to wet bottomland forests. It prefers to be grown in full sun areas with moist soils, but it tolerates a range of soil conditions. Fraxinus is differentiated from other trees in the area by having opposite compound leaves with 7-9 leaflets. It is the host plant for several native moth species, and the seeds are eaten by birds and small mammals. Fraxinus pennsylvanica is good for restoration projects.
