Chamaecyparis thyoides

Atlantic white cedar

Chamaecyparis thyoides is an evergreen tree native to the coastal and sandhill regions of the southeastern U.S. It is naturally found in bogs, pocosins, seepages, and other similarly wet areas. It can be cultivated farther inland, but it does prefer to be in wet sites. Because of its evergreen nature, Chamaecyparis thyoides can be a good screening plant, and provides important cover for wildlife in the winter. It also works well for restoration projects.
