Solidago sempervirens

Seaside goldenrod

Solidago sempervirens is a native flowering plant that occurs along the east coast down to North Carolina. It is naturally found on dunes, grasslands, and tidal marshes. It grows best in sunny, moist, well drained soils. It is very salt tolerant and fairly deer resistant. It produces clusters of bright yellow flowers in the summer which attract many pollinators. This plant dies back almost completely in the winter; however, leaving dormant stems up until spring provides necessary over-wintering habitat for many pollinators. Solidago sempervirens works well as a specimen plant in a yard or rain garden, or for use in restoration projects.
