Sagittaria latifolia

Duck potato

Sagittaria latifolia is a plant native to the southeast. It is found throughout the region in wetland habitats. It grows in full sun to part shade, and in soils that are wet or have frequent standing water. Clusters of showy white flowers bloom in the summer and attract pollinators. This plant has arrow shaped leaves that can grow up three feet tall, but die back completely in the winter. It also grows “tubers” underground that are eaten by many small critters (hence the common name of Duck potato). Sagittaria latifolia is great for restoration projects, or as a specimen plant in a wet yard.
