Quercus phellos

Willow oak

Quercus phellos is a native oak occurring throughout the southeast, although uncommon in the mountains. It is found naturally in a wide variety of conditions: from bottomland forests and swamps, to upland, recently-disturbed slopes. It can be cultivated in a broad range of conditions, but does not enjoy being either very dry or very wet. Quercus phellos works well as a street tree, or for restoration projects. Oak acorns are an important food source for much of our wildlife, and oak trees serve as important hosts to much of our butterfly, pollinator, and insect life.
