Quercus palustris

Pin oak

Quercus palustris is an oak native to eastern North America, though largely absent in the southernmost states. It is naturally found in wetland sites, but can tolerate drier conditions as well. These trees have a unique branching structure with the lower branches angled downward, the middle horizontal, and the upper ascending. Quercus palustris is well suited for restoration projects or as a street tree. Oak acorns are an important food source for much of our wildlife, and oak trees serve as important hosts to much of our butterfly, pollinator, and insect life.
