Orontium aquaticum

Golden club

Orontium aquaticum is a native plant found throughout the southeast in wetland habitats. It grows best in wet soils, and can grow submerged in water up to one foot. It has shiny deep green leaves that float on top of deep water. Interesting gold-tipped flowers bloom in the late spring (hence the common name Golden club). This plant spreads via rhizomes. Orontium aquaticum is a great plant for restoration projects or pond plantings, or as a showy native in a water garden.
