Styrax americanus

American snowbell

Styrax americanus is a small tree native to the lower part of the southeast- up to Virginia. It is naturally found in wetland conditions, and grows best in wet soils with full sun to part shade. It has drooping, white, bell-shaped flowers that bloom in the late spring and attract many butterflies and pollinators. The fruits produced in the fall are a food source for birds. Styrax americanus works well as a specimen plant in a yard, or for restoration projects.
