Quercus alba

White oak

Quercus alba is a native overstory oak, very common to the forests of the southeast. It is quickly distinguished from other common oaks by its rounded and deeply lobed leaves, and the unique plate-like bark on mature trees. It prefers somewhat dry growing conditions. Quercus alba is excellent for restoration projects and erosion control, or as a specimen tree in a yard or street. Oak acorns are an important food source for much of our wildlife, and oak trees serve as important hosts to much of our butterfly, pollinator, and insect life.
