Prunus serotina

Black cherry

Prunus serotina is a tree native across moist to dry forests of the southeast. It prefers to be grown in the full sun. It has long clusters of white flowers which bloom in the spring and attract many pollinators. Black fruits ripen in the late summer/fall, and provide food to humans, songbirds, turkeys, and small mammals. It is a host plant for several native butterfly species. Prunus serotina works great as a yard or street tree, or for use in restoration plantings.
