Pinckneya bracteata

Pinckneya bracteata is a small tree native to the coastal plain from South Carolina through Florida. It is naturally found along the edges of bogs, and grows best in wet acidic soils with full sun to part shade. It flowers in late spring/early summer, and the small actual flowers are surrounded by showy pink sepals that are long lasting. Pinckneya bracteata works well as a specimen plant in a garden.
