Cephalanthus occidentalis

Button bush

Cephalanthus occidentalis is a shrub native throughout the southeast. It naturally grows in wetland areas, and prefers to be sunny. This species has unique round white flowers (buttons) that bloom in the late spring, and yield interesting seed heads in the fall. Pollinators and hummingbirds are drawn to the flowers, and songbirds will eat the seeds. Cephalanthus occidentalis is great for restoration projects or as an interesting garden feature.
