Symphoricarpos orbiculatus

Coralberry

Symphoricarpos orbiculatus is a shrub native across the southeast, found in various moist to dry forests. It grows best in well-drained soil in any light condition (from deep shade to full sun). It is drought resistant. Pink, bell-shaped flowers bloom in summer and attract pollinators. Reddish fruits (giving it the common name Coral berry) ripen in the fall and are enjoyed by songbirds and small mammals. This shrub suckers and forms colonies. Symphoricarpos orbiculatus works well as a specimen shrub in a yard or rain garden, or for use in restoration and erosion control projects.
